You’ve probably been told: "It’s normal to lose distance as you get older." At PrepaGOLF, we refuse to accept this. It’s not age that shrinks your swing—it’s a sedentary lifestyle and a loss of mobility.
The secret of seniors who consistently play with a single-digit handicap isn't brute strength. It’s their ability to maintain a fluid rotation. On this page, we give you the keys to "loosen up" your body and secure your playing pleasure for the next decade.

Why Thoracic Stiffness Kills Your Swing (And Why Your Brain Is Holding You Back)
For many senior golfers, the loss of distance, fluidity, or consistency isn't a technical flaw… it’s a lack of thoracic mobility.
The thoracic spine (your upper back) is the true rotary engine of the golf swing. It allows you to create width in the backswing, store energy, and release it at impact.
With age, sedentary habits, and daily posture, this area often becomes stiff and locked.
This is where your brain takes over.
When thoracic mobility is insufficient, your body is forced to compensate elsewhere:
- In the lumbar spine (lower back),
- In the hips,
- Or in the shoulders.
The problem is that these compensations significantly increase the risk of injury, especially in the lower back. Your brain, whose primary role is to protect you, detects this potential danger.
The Result: It voluntarily "brakes" your movement. You feel like you can't turn further, you lack speed, and you end up forcing the swing without ever gaining power. This isn't a lack of strength; it’s a neurological protection mechanism.
For senior golfers, trying to fix technique without restoring thoracic mobility is like asking for more rotation from a locked system. Your body will simply say "no."
The right approach is to:
- Restore controlled mobility to the thoracic spine
- Protect and stabilize the lower back
- Rebuild confidence so your brain "authorizes" full range of motion again
When this mobility returns, the results are immediate: a smoother swing, less back tension, increased distance without effort, and above all, the joy of playing freely again.
Long-term performance always starts with a body that feels safe.
